Vietnamese Food Wish List

One of the best things to explore in Vietnam is the cuisine. Taking the time to try the different local spices and flavours is something we absolutely loved. As we talked about in our Hanoi post, to avoid expensive food VietnamFoodPic1.pngtours, we created our own. We poured over our travel books, checked out some blogs and of course asked the hotel staff and eventually decided on the food we wanted to try and the best places to do it. Delicious rice noodles and spiced pork are included in most of the dishes, giving us an idea of Vietnam’s specialty, and oh boy it did not disappoint. Almost every day we got to try something new, but remember these are the foods we chose; there are so many other dishes out there so try making your own list. Have fun!

  • Bun Bo Nam Bo – This dish consists of stirred vermicelli noodles and beef in fish sauce, sugar, lemon and chilli with vegetables, fried onion and peanuts.
  • Bun Cha – Barbecued pork in a light broth with local spices with rice vermicelli and raw leafy greens to mix in for personal preference.
  • Nem Cua Be – Fried crab spring rolls with a sweet and sour dipping sauce.
  • Cafe Trung – The coffee in Vietnam is already delicious, but when prepared with (hear us out) beaten egg yolks, sugar and condensed milk, it becomes a delicious creamy liquid dessert that you have to try!
  • Pho – Vietnam’s most well known dish; beef and noodle soup in a tasty broth. So necessary to try while in Vietnam!
  • Goi Cuon – Known as the Vietnamese summer roll, this is a plate of fresh rolls consisting of pork, prawn, vermicelli and veggies all wrapped in rice paper and VietnamFoodPic2.pngserved with a spicy peanut dipping sauce.
  • Banh Cuon – Thin rice paper crepes filled with pork, ground shrimp, mushrooms and shallots.
  • Banh Goi – Deep fried crispy pastries filled with minced pork, mushrooms, vermicelli, shallots and other veggies.
  • Banh Mi – Do not leave Vietnam without grabbing some Banh Mi off a street vendor! A simple yet delicious and convenient baguette sandwich filled with pork pate and variations of fresh veggies usually including cucumber, carrot and cilantro. The most ideal lunch food for exploring on the go!
  • Nem Nuong Xa – These are minced pork sausages on lemongrass skewers. Super flavourful and served with chili sauce and herbs.
